BBC Exposes "Saving Private Jessica Lynch" Story As Utter Fraud!

Private Jessica Lynch became an icon of the war, and the story of her "capture" by the Iraqis and her "rescue" by occupying US forces became one of the biggest "patriotic" moments of the conflict.
But her story is one of the most stunning pieces of news propaganda ever conceived.

Private Lynch, a 19-year-old army clerk from Palestine, West Virginia, was captured when her company took a wrong turning just outside Nasiriya and was ambushed.

Nine of her comrades were killed and Private Lynch was taken to the local hospital, which at the time was swarming with Fedayeen. Eight days later US special forces stormed the hospital, capturing the "dramatic" events on a night vision camera.

They were said to have come under fire from inside and outside the building, but they made it to Lynch and whisked her away by helicopter.

Reports claimed that she had stab and bullet wounds and that she had been slapped about on her hospital bed and interrogated.

But Iraqi doctors in Nasiriya say they provided the best treatment they could for the soldier in the midst of war. She was assigned the only specialist bed in the hospital and one of only two nurses on the floor.

"I examined her, I saw she had a broken arm, a broken thigh and a dislocated ankle," said Dr Harith a-Houssona, who looked after her.

Jessica amnesia

"There was no [sign of] shooting, no bullet inside her body, no stab wound - only road traffic accident. They want to distort the picture. I don't know why they think there is some benefit in saying she has a bullet injury."

Witnesses told us that the special forces knew that the Iraqi military had fled a day before they swooped on the hospital.

"We were surprised. Why do this? There was no military, there were no soldiers in the hospital," said Dr Anmar Uday, who worked at the hospital.

"It was like a Hollywood film. They cried 'go, go, go', with guns and blanks without bullets, blanks and the sound of explosions. They made a show for the American attack on the hospital - action movies like Sylvester Stallone or Jackie Chan."

There was one more twist. Two days before the snatch squad arrived, Harith had arranged to deliver Jessica to the Americans in an ambulance.

But as the ambulance, with Private Lynch inside, raced toward a checkpoint American troops opened fire, forcing it to flee back to the hospital. The Americans had almost killed their prize catch.

When footage of the rescue was released, General Vincent Brooks, US spokesman in Doha, said: "Some brave souls put their lives on the line to make this happen, loyal to a creed that they know that they'll never leave a fallen comrade."

The American strategy was to ensure the right television footage by using embedded reporters and images from their own cameras, editing the film themselves.

The Pentagon has been influenced by Hollywood producers of reality TV and action movies, notably the man behind Black Hawk Down, Jerry Bruckheimer.

Bruckheimer advised the Pentagon on the primetime television series "Profiles from the Front Line", that followed US forces in Afghanistan in 2001. That approached was taken on and developed on the field of battle in Iraq.

In the Orwellian world in which we now live in, the line between "Reality TV" and a Made-for-TV reality (of war) is blurred such that there is no difference between the two.

What's that line from "The Matrix"? You can choose the Blue Pill or you can choose the Red Pill...

Choose the Red.

... see what happens when journalists follow up on stories?

that's right, they learn more about what really happened. which, after all, is the point of journalism.

now, since we live in america kids, how does that make our journalism different from the journalism in britain? yes, that's right! the media here only covers the story once, and never, ever follows up on it.

why? first, they give the excuse of the "fast moving 24 hour news cycle" where there's "no time" to do any follow up reporting. second, and most important, it's not the media's job here in america to determine what really happened. their job is simply to propagate the official version of the story. they work FOR the government. and if they do what the government wants, the government gives them ACCESS to exclusive info.

see how the sharing works kids? this is known as quid pro quo. plus, the politicans and the celebrity journalists all know the same people and go to the same fancy parties and have the same bosses. they're just a big bunch of buddies looking out for each other. they could care less about you, because you're not in their circle...

anyways, who's version of the story is ALWAYS first kids. yes, very good. the official version is always first. that way, the government can grab the mic. that way, the government can control the story and control the headlines. and control what you believe.

and so you can see why following up on a story is a really, really important thing, unless... you live in america...

Sensationalist Article 16.May.2003 10:12

anonymous

This is a sensationalist article itself. It doesn't show that the original reports were lies, it just shows that they didn't have all the facts. I remember the reports. They said that they didn't encounter much gunfire, a little from a sniper outside, and none from inside the hospital. However they didn't know before going in that this would be the case, so they had to conduct their mission as if they would encounter enemy fire. Certainly this was overkill for the hospital staff who were no threat to the Americans and who knew the Fedayeen were gone. The Americans didn't know that however. I remember the initial report also quoted one of the Americans as saying that the hospital staff was very cooperative and seemed a little bemused with the situation. This is perfectly consistent with the facts stated in the above article.

As for her wounds... reports on her wounds were unsure from the beginning. There were reports of stab wounds and gunshot wounds that were almost immediately retracted.

As for her being slapped around and interrogated. The only report of her being slapped was attributed to the lawyer who led the soldiers to the hospital. That was a report of only one slap. If anyone imagined that this meant that she was continuously abused and interrogated because of this one slap, that is no fault of the journalists, troops or government.

As for the hospital staff trying to return Jessica the day before she was finally rescued... that is just more story. The Americans were unaware of it at the time. They were working with the lawyer, who by the way could also certainly be unaware that the Fedayeen were gone, and Jessica out of danger, because it took him several days to enact his plan. And his wife was no longer at the hospital, for she went to stay at her parents house.

The new facts of this case that came to light later did not expose any lies or manipulation, they only add more dimensions to the story.

There is bad journalism out there. There is gross propoganda. This is just not a very good example of it.

We have the most secretive administration in our history.
People keep things secret because they are trying to hide something,
if it was something good would they not release it with much fanfare?

>The new facts of this case that came to light later did not expose any lies or manipulation, they only add more dimensions to the story.<

no, no i don't think so. i do recall how it was presented on CNN, and in the newspapers i happen to read. it WAS made out to be a heroic mission, in which elite s.f. troops faced terrible odds and enemy fire and just had to save a poor wounded soldier from certain death at the hands of torturers.

THAT was the sensationalist story. THAT was the story general franks had us believe. THAT was the story that doesn't jibe with the facts that have been coming in.

and THAT is why to hype the initial reports and the official versions is dangerous. lies and manipulation? not neccessarily. a lazy press looking for "patriotic" sensation and a military more than ready to supply it, in a political environment in which image counts above all else? absolutely.

This Thing Here 16.May.2003 12:09

You mention something important. I wasn't exposed to the most sensationalist versions of the story. I don't watch tv. I get my news from the radio, and the NY Times mostly, as well as various online sources.

Without the distraction of those pseudo news agencies it was possible to get a more reasonable understanding of what happened, and understand that there is still a lot that we don't know. But it is still true that the facts presented in the above article don't contradict what I gleaned from various reports that I read and heard. They just add more to the story.

I was exposed to tv reports only once during the war. It was MSNBC. It seemed like I was watching a sportscast.

So I guess I am unaware of the reports that are being blasted in this article, therefore I am at a disadvantage here. At the same time my experience shows that you can get a more balanced understanding if you choose your news sources accordingly.

I'll never go back to tv.

jest thinkin'

Here's a nice tidbit (easily verifiable for the anonymous asshole who made the comments about bad propaganda). The website jessicalynch.org was purchased on March 28, 2003, several days before she was rescued. A simple whois search on network solutions website will back this up. Remarkable foresight, wouldn't you say. I'll tell what is bad propaganda. The whole Jessica Lynch rescue story is bad propaganda. Revealing it for the pure media bullshit it is is the opposite of propaganda, that is to say, truth.

Just wondering who you are calling an anonymous asshole? I am the only one who posted with anonymous as a name, but can't figure out what I wrote that would make anyone call me an asshole.

I used the word "propoganda" but didn't apply it to anything specific and didn't call anything "bad propoganda."

I wrote that there is "gross" propoganda in the press, but that I didn't think the Jessica Lynch story, as I understood it, was that. Let me repeat that the story as I understand it to be told may be different than yours is, because I don't watch tv, and tend to filter out sensationalist rhetoric and try to glean the real story underneath the glitz.

You calling me an asshole for genuinely stating my beliefs, whether right or wrong, in a rational manner, and insulting no one only says something about you. I needn't call you any names.

B.J.

The veiw I saw of her on Fox news, on an army strecher, showed a close-up of her face. Any moron with a pair of eyes could plainly see that her lips & nose were badly swollen. Also dried blood around her nose was plainly visable. So if the Iraquies didn't do this who did? The Drs. who took such good care of her? Or maybe the resquers? Oh yeah I guess it was make-up put on by the camera man!!! Come on people, I mistrust our goverment as much as any of you but facts are facts. Also, there are several contradictions on the part of the hospital staff. I've read several articles in which the staff was quoted. One quoted them as saying that all she had was a dislocated ankle, abroken thigh, & a broken arm. Yet in the same article they talk about giving her bvlood transfuseions,( For BROKEN BONES, WHY?????) Yeah the U.S. goverment's version sounds fishey, but no more so than those that are accussing them of lying. B.J.

The Jessica Lynch's story was not a bad propaganda in a sense because it served the purpose. Thats what propagandas are for. We all know whats going on out there and its only fools that pretend and believe all the lies. The purpose of the press is to put the government in check but it seems that they are like puppets to the current regime. Gosh -- a couple of IRAQI doctors say the whole rescue was a hoax, and her wounds were not battle inflicted. Well, they are IRAQI doctors so they must be telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Interesting how we can choose whose stories to believe isn't it? I think Pontius Pilate asked Jesus, "What is truth?" I read this story by Robert Scheer, a writer I've always admired for his clear analysis and persuasive language. He offered no proof at all that our military concocted a hoax -- just a BBC 'story'.

josh daniel speer mysteriously died in a car crash the weekend he came back from iraq.

david tapper mysteriously died, shot in the back in afghanistan.

what do these two have in common? both "claimed" to be in on the saving of jessica lynch. both knew to much.

tapper was sent to back afghanistan out of his SEAL rotation and questioned being sent back out so soon. both

days before he was sent out on this death mission he called his wife and asked her and his 4 children to pray for

him. he knew something was up.

Yeah

I don't know if anyone is even interested in it anymore,

after all it has been two months now, but I was just wondering, if you

people who think that the death of Joshua Speer was government or

military planned just what do you think it was that he

knew? What the stink could have been so secretive that they would have

killed him? I'd enjoy anyone's opinion who thinks they

have a good suggestion. To aid you in your reply they still have no answers

as to why he had the wreck.

Happy thinking.

Oh yeah, Josh was one of my best friends, by the way.
