This is really good news! Abu Abbas has been caught!

this guy has been a pain in our asses for a while. Its long known he was living in Iraq. What gets me is that he hung around as long as he did. Maybe he had worn out his welcome in syria.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Abu Abbas, the Palestinian terrorist who masterminded the 1985 hijacking of the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro in the Mediterranean Sea, has been arrested by U.S. personnel in Iraq.

Abbas was arrested about 50 miles west of Baghdad after being turned away from Iraq's border with Syria, a Palestinian source told CNN.

The hijacking of the ship led to the killing of disabled passenger Leon Klinghoffer, an American Jew. Klinghoffer was shot in his wheelchair and thrown overboard by Abbas' men.

In April 1996, Abbas -- whose actual name is Muhammad Abbas -- admitted to the hijacking and apologized. "We are sorry," he said after returning to Gaza after years in exile. Abbas said the hijacking was a mistake and admitted that he and guerrillas who took part were on their way to Israel to wage terrorist attacks.

A warrant for Abbas' arrest is outstanding in Italy, where he was convicted and sentenced to five life terms in absentia in connection with the hijacking, according to the U.S. State Department.

The Palestine Liberation Front (PLF), headed by Abbas and based in Iraq, is officially designated by the U.S. government as a terrorist organization. In an October speech in Cincinnati, Ohio, President Bush accused Iraq of providing Abbas with safe haven.

Abbas was a member of the Palestinian National Congress and occasionally traveled to the Palestinian territories.

The last time militant Jew-killers fell into American hands they all went to work for NASA and the CIA. Maybe Abu could get a gig with Tom Ridge.

He was fighting with one of the only low-tech tools available to him.
Why don't we stop giving Israel several billion dollars every year and let them confront each other on equal terms.

He is a convicted thug. You are showing your true colors by supporting a know and convicted murderer...or do you think Italy is in on "the scam" too?

The leftists are doomed and they know it. They cannot differentiate between killers and "freedom fighters." This has relegated them to the corner where they hide from the light.

Terrorist? Here's an Interesting Coincidence- 16.Apr.2003 13:00

Here's an interesting coincidence.

Muhammad Abbas, the veteran Palestinian terrorist who is widely reckoned to have planned and directed the hijacking in 1985 of the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro, is in Cairo for talks with Gen. Omar Suleiman, Egypt's intelligence chief. Abbas, who is secretary-general of the People's Front for Liberation of Palestine, flew in from Baghdad, Iraq. And another unusual visitor flew discreetly into Cairo Wednesday, the former chief of Israel's Mossad intelligence service Ephrain Halevy, who is now a top adviser to premier Ariel Sharon. General Suleiman tells U.S. diplomats he is trying to get a broad agreement from the Palestinians to stop terrorist attacks against civilians (an area in which Abbas has considerable expertise). Tel Aviv sources say Halevy is scheduled to see Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher and other "unnamed officials." Could General Suleiman be trying to midwife to a Halevy-Abbas meet?

So did General Suleiman ever arrange a meeting between the two to stop Palestinian terrorist attacks? Hmm, judging but the continued violence I doubt it.

Which makes me wonder, why would Abbas have been invited to this supposed meeting if Abbas wasn't a Palestinian terrorist VIP?

If Egypt thinks Abbas is still active with the Palestinian terrorists, then it must be true.
