AudioOnDemand: KBOO news 5-6pm Mon Apr 14th

Glen Owen will record and provide mp3 audio file of KBOO newscasts several times a week. KBOO does not provide this Audio On Demand service at this time. This will allow those interested to receive a sample of local COMMUNITY radio news coverage to compare with National Public Radio archives for same date and time.

PS: I would be DELIGHTED for other IMCpdx and/or KBOO people to join this project to make this a regular, ongoing, organized feature item on IMCpdx. This project could also evolve gradually into the IMCpdx radio webcast that we would like to provide in the medium to long term.

KBOO has no clue to local news 16.Apr.2003 11:54

bud

Hey, I appreciate the service to upload the KBOO news. But, there are two big issues. 1. The quality of the KBOO stream is horrible, constant skips, stops and blurps. This isn't your fault, it's KBOO's long-standing technical issue that has yet to be resolved. 2. KBOO rely's way too much on corporate news...yes, it's true folks. All of the wire stories they read comes from AP (Associated Press). Not alternative. They rarely have a good, unique LOCAL story. If you want direct access to decent national and international news go straight to the source, Free Speech Radio news,  http://www.fsrn.org/ This is what KBOO chops up and mixes in with it's AP wire stories. The FSRN website has much better quality downloads in multiple formats. A good balance to NPR. I also think the BBC is much better than NPR.  http://bbcnews.com
