This open letter is being posted in hopes that we can confirm from each Board Member if all the Board Members support the discrimination and the lack of accessibility that is present in the IPRC. IPRC Board member, is your name on this list? This letter is posted in hopes to find out why not even one Board member considered the Blatant and unhidden IPRC discrimination problem to be worth having an expedited Board meeting. (article 1)

This open letter is being posted in hopes that we can confirm from each Board Member if all the Board Members support the discrimination and the lack of accessibility that is present in the Independent Publishers Resource Center (IPRC). IPRC Board member, is your name on this list? This letter is posted in hopes to find out why not even one Board member considered the IPRC discrimination problem to be worth having an expedited Board meeting. The inaccessible (to the Blind and to non-English Speaking people) art gallery's entire creation was expedited in 5 days despite our outcries against it.

We the pro-peace oppressed community members, who want to lift our united independent press voice in favor of pro-peace regarding the current oil-driven-war want to know why we, who have waited 5 years, have not been given an expedited meeting by the Board Members. Are the Board Members in favor of discrimination? Is there even one Asian American, one African-American, or even one Latino-American member, or one person over 50, one Blind person, or even one deaf person on the Board? Or is it the same as the IPRC staff? (When there is ageism, ableism and racism, it does make a difference.) Is that why you don't care? Why doesn't the Board care about all the disadvantaged people who feel unwanted because the IPRC has denied the disabled, the elderly and non-english speaking minorities complete accessibility for over 5 years?

Below is the email sent to the IPRC Board President Kristan Kennedy (whose very public name has been repeatedly self-publicized as you'll see below). Ms. Kennedy promptly replied and adamantly refused to give a 3rd party mediation time and date or an expedited Board meeting. Ms. Kennedy emailed her blunt refusal within several hours, even though the Below Open Letter email was to be sent to each and every Board member. So we must wonder:

Does Ms. Kennedy speak for all Board Members when Ms.Kennedy lets it be known that victims of discrimination are not worth an expedited Board meeting?

Dear Public, Please continue to boycott any involvement in the IPRC Art Gallery (which was made at the expense of accessibility to the oppressed) and please continue to boycott all donations and grants to the IPRC. Tell a friend. Currently, we are not boycotting any IPRC Board members nor their businesses. We are still hoping that Pro-Equality members of the Board will consider an expedited Board meeting in consideration of the oppressed who have waited for the IPRC for 5 years. Please continue to use IPRC services though because now more than ever your independent pro-peace voice needs to be heard!

Open Letter

Please forward this to all members of your Board, and to the IPRC Attorney-At-Law, as soon as possible,

Dear Kris,

Thank you very much for your reply. How are you, the Board and your Attorney? Well, i hope. When I personally spoke with you on Saturday, April 5th, 2003, you mentioned that the Board might consider having an emergency meeting instead of waiting for the third week in April. It saddens me that you have "changed your mind" and we are no longer considered enough of a priority in your eyes, or the eyes of your Board members that we, the members of the oppressed, the Blind, the deaf, the non-English speaking minorities, the members in wheelchairs, who have been ignored by the IPRC and denied accessiblity to the IPRC for over 5 years by the IPRC, do not warrant the same urgency that the inaccessible brand new art gallery warranted. I witnessed its insulting 'priority number one' 5 day creation.

As a pro-peace member of the community, I seek peace, and have asked for a swift resolution to the discrimination issues in the IPRC. You mentioned on that same date that there would be a tape recorded meeting involving you, the IPRC Board President, myself and a third party mediator..."someday". In order to speed the resolution process I request that your attorney-at-law be present, -or- that the IPRC Director be absent from this meeting.

We would like that meeting to be no later than Friday, April 18th, 2003. We the oppressed have waited over 5 years for access while inaccessible art gallery priorities continue to be placed before accessibility. We now humbly ask that the meeting be held no later Friday, Aptril 18th, 2003.

Every request that we have asked of the IPRC such as temporarily dismissing your "unintentionally" biased Board member and regarding an emergency meeting and regarding accessibility has been ignored and/or refused. The discrimination has gone on for 5 years.

Thus, we expect that you will refuse to set a time and date for a meeting with the 3rd party mediator by Friday, Aptril 18th, 2003. As pro-peace oppressed members of our society our greatest ability is to make our priorities love, unity, peace... ...and the truth. We have organized our grassroots boycott due to the truth about discrimination in the IPRC. As our boycott continues to grow to include all people and businesses who support the current pro-discrimination, "brand-new-art-gallery-luxuries-are-the-IPRC-priority" mentality in the IPRC, we seek the truth from you, and we humbly ask that you please confirm the below public information:

Would you please be so kind as to confirm the truth of the below information? Is this information still current as of the IPRC Fall 2002 Newsletter distributed to the public on April 5th, 2003?

These are the names of Board Members and the quotation marked titles are titles of the publications or media which these people create or which these people are involved in.

The current IPRC Board Of Directors is:

Inge Bruggeman/Textura Printing

Danelle Jones/Portland Center Stage

Sarah Marcus/Filmmaker

Kristan Kennedy, Chair/Swallow Press (x2)

Bryan Markovitz/Metropolitan Group

Mark Russell, Secretary/"Penny Dreadful" zine

Ivan Snyder, Treasurer/"Redwood Chapel" zine

IPRC Advisory Board

Bill Bush/ Metropolitan Group

Chloe Eudaly/Owner of "Reading Frenzy" bookstore

Peter Jordan/"Dishwasher" zine

Julie Shapiro/ WBEZ Third Coast Audio Festival

The IPRC made the above information widely available to the public, as a source of pride in two different ways:

#1. The IPRC placed it in an outreach folder distributed to the public, on April 5th, 2003, as the IPRC insultingly "celebrated" the same changes which we've been humbly, and patiently asking the IPRC to reconsider while we waited patiently for accessibility to the Blind, the Deaf, to non-English speakers, to wheelchair users and to so many more oppressed adults and children for 5 years.

#2. The IPRC even published these names in Volume 4, Number 2 on the outside of the IPRC Newsletter as a source of pride. Published on the outside of the newsletter so that when the newsletter is folded in half, and taped, revealing its printed "postage paid permit number", the second thing you see after the address, is all the Board member's names and businesses.

Again, all that we ask is for a tape recorded meeting with the 3rd party mediator by Friday, Aptril 18th, 2003.

You made your names and businesses public as a source of pride. The fact that the IPRC is not 100% accessible to the blind, deaf, people in wheelchairs, the elderly and non-English speaking members of the community is a source of utter humiliation that has victimized oppressed members of our community for over 5 years. If you are not a disabled person, or a non-English speaking person, then you can never comprehend how degrading it is to have to be "dependent" on someone in place called the "Independent" Publisher's Resource Center. You can never comprehend how it feels to be told, in politically correct terms of course, "sorry, you people in wheelchairs and you old people with limited arm mobility can't use any one of our four letterpresses, because we placed each and every one of them on high counters way out of your reach."

The priorities of myself and members of the oppressed are love, unity, peace and truth. We only ask for equality and accessibiity. It is time that the public receive the truth about what is happening in the IPRC and who is responsible for it.

Lastly, dear IPRC Board President, IPRC Board members and IPRC attorney-at-law, and all members of IPRC independent media and worldwide media, as you consider our request, we, the ignored and oppressed, ask that you please consider this excerpt:

"Justin dart has suggested that all movements that allow a formerly powerless people to determine their own destiny engender hostility in individuals comfortable with the status quo. Dart explains 'Many of these journalistic and media personalities antagonistic to the [American with Disabilities Act] ADA expect oppressed people to stay in their place' "
pg. 106 "The Disability Rights Movements,
From Charity To Confrontation".
Written by Doris Zames Fleischer and Frieda Zames
referring to John Dart, New York City Disability Rights Advocate, who has been called "the father of the ADA"

We, the oppressed and ignored, will no longer "stay in our place" while brand new inaccessible luxuries are created.

True Love & Unity... ...for the people,

I love you all. All we ever asked for is equality and accessibility so that each disadvantaged man, woman and child may experience that elusive independent press goal of... ...FREEDOM.
