(NFTF.ORG) -- Early Tuesday, a U.S. missile blasted Qatar-based Al Jazeera's Baghdad offices. Within the same hour, reporters from Abu Dhabi TV were attacked by a U.S. tank. (Background information.)
Shortly after, Al Jazeera pleaded with coalition forces to guarantee safe passage out of Iraq.
Abu Dhabi TV reported that their 29 journalists and support staff are surrounded by U.S. tanks. They, too, promised to leave Iraq immediately.
However, at press time early Wednesday morning Baghdad time, Al Jazeera reporters were still operating in Iraq. The BBC claims that Al Jazeera has informed them they would not leave Iraq.
Al Jazeera reports that the situation of some 29 Abu Dhabi TV journalists and support staff is still dire. Al Jazeera says they are trapped in the basement of their building which has since been levelled. Al Jazeera is not in contact with the Abu Dhabi TV crew but the latter are said to maintain contact with their head office in the U.A.E.
