Shots were fired in the vicinity of the Portland Peace Encampment in the early morning hours approx. 1:00am 3/31/03. Portland police arrived on the scene with out being called to inquire about the incident. No one in the camp had any information on the alleged shooting. Campers were either sleeping or so peroccupied with chit-chat and in socializing that no one was sure whether or not the shots were directed at the camp. Some people are so out of it that, although they were awake at the time, claimed that they heard nothing at all. The shots were however close enough to awaken one battle hardened camper who, having realized that no one was injured, yawned and went back to sleep.

Peace Camp is soaked this morning. Needs: Bus tickets, and, as always, coffee and cigarettes. Also needs influx of militant defenders to prevent possible eviction.

to list

keeping vigil
keeping safe
keeping healthy with nutritious food
keeping dry while sleeping in the rain
keeping the peace

because campers will have to sleep on the concrete
sidewalks and the rains have returned - there is an
urgent need for plastic tarps. they can also use
weatherproof pads to at least give a buffer between
them and the concrete.

warm food donations are needed and if you leave a
pan or pot with food in it - it will be available for
pickup later - no one has walked off with a pot yet!

coffee cups are needed - please no styrofoam -
and coffee would be great too! we do have some coffee
containers if you want to pick them up, fill them and
bring them back - we'd be smiling

smoking tobacco or cigarettes would gladly be accepted although keeping dry, warm and having meals have the most priority

after a rainy night, if you want to volunteer to take some
bedding to dry - we'd oblige ya with wet bags

we at the peace encampment are not in need of "militant defenders"...we are in need of the ongoing public support and fully committed peoples to help express our political statement of non-violence towards world peace. We nee people who can engage in intelectual dialouge on a 24 hour 7 day a week commitment towards our struggle to stop this unjust slaugter of human beings and world domination. It is our obligation as citizens on this planet to put an end to this unjust illegal waging of war. thank you again to all the people out there supporting us...we love you all.

Yeah right, Todd. Allow Sadam to continue torturing and murdering Iraqis who oppose him. How can you ignore that?

It is the obligation of clear-thinking people as citizens on this plantet to attempt to educate ignorant misguided pathetic fools like yourself. Thanks for the opportunity.

this argument is beyond lame... why on earth would anyone believe that bush actually CARES about iraqi civilians? you would have to be an idiot to believe that we are doing this to free the iraqis when you could take a look at ourt own country and see that bush doesnt care at all about people. his only concern is money, however it presents itself.

maybe you could get a grip on reality and then come back and say something intelligent.

Clear-thinking? 31.Mar.2003 18:38

Your command of the english language (grammar, syntax, etc) betrays your obvious lack of intelligence. The problem is not that you have a limited vocabulary, but that you are TRYING to sound educated and intelligent when, in fact, you are not. Here is the text of your post:

Todd wrote "It is our obligation as citizens on this planet to put an end to this unjust illegal waging of war."

This is whatyou should have said:

Todd, I should assume that you (as well as most other peace activists) understand that Saddam Hussein is a bastard who needs to eat his last meal very soon. On this we can agree. However, you seem to be opposed to war on his sovereign nation for a host of reasons including the fact that the war is not sanctioned by the UN, some of the stated reasons for the war are factually suspect (claims that Iraq has/is building WMDs which have yet to be found), and the fact that US sanctions on Iraq have caused more suffering to the Iraqi people than Mr. Hussein could ever have hoped to accomplish. I disagree with your stance on this war, and here are my reasons. (insert pro-war reasons here). Here is my rebuttal to your anti-war arguments in which I cite your specific arguments and respond to them (insert intelligent rebuttals here). I will not resort to name-calling, because it is not a part of rational discourse. Good-day to you, sir.

Your response to this article, had it been an intelligent, clear-headed response, should have been something allong those lines. However, you chose to give a rhetorical, one-liner argument against this person's statements. Then, you chose to call the person names, as if that would help your position. Discrediting your opponent in a debate is nonscientific and illogical. Whether or not your opponent is a pathetic, ignorant fool is beside the point. If you want to argue against somebody, then stick to arguing actual facts and not resorting to opinionated attacks on the person's character.

Good grammar = intelligence 31.Mar.2003 22:28

Oz

I certainly hope that is not your acid test for intelligence. Good sentence stucture and proper grammar?

If so, the radical crowd the posts most of the information on this site are severely lacking in that department!

Here is an experiment for you, do a Google search and send me a dollar for every time the word "fuck" is used (noun, verb, etc.)in an anti-war post or when it was deftly integrated into some cleverly turned anti-American phrase like "Fuck Bush", "Fuck America", "Fuck Republicans", "Fuck The Troops", "Fuck the Capitalist Pigs", "Fuck Christians", "Fuck The Police", "Fuck the Corporate Media","Fuck The Mayor","Fuck the Government", "Fuck the Law", Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck....

I mean, like man, I would fucking totally be fucking rich or something.
