|United for Peace and Justice Call to Action--Protest for Peace on Saturday, March 22 |
March 20th, 2003
|Saddened and outraged by the loss of life that will inevitably result from the war on Iraq, United for Peace and Justice calls on all who are opposed to this war to organize peace protests on Saturday, March 22.|
Saturday is already a global day of protest, with mass marches and rallies planned for London, Vienna, New York, Washington, DC, San Francisco and many other cities around the world. Let?s organize hundreds of peace events immediately in cities and towns throughout the United States to send a strong message to the world that we do not support this criminal war.
We encourage you to organize events that are appropriate for your community?whether that means a rally, a candlelight vigil, or a civil disobedience action?and that will allow for participation by as many members of your community as possible. Please list the events on www.unitedforpeace.org so that United for Peace can publicize them, and be sure to work with your local media.
If you are in the New York region, we strongly urge you to come to the United for Peace and Justice march in New York City on Saturday that is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of people. Assemble at noon on Broadway between 36th and 42st Streets, and between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. The march will proceed throughout the heart of Manhattan ending in Washington Square Park.
We cannot be silent when our government has just launched a war that violates international law and will undoubtedly result in the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians. Please speak out for peace on Saturday.
