Routine Traffic Stop

An older tan Ford van was stopped at 2:45 PM on Friday, March 21, 2003 at the intersection of 3rd and Davis today in Portland's Old Town District.

It's likely that this harmless peaceful couple and their pooch simply attracted too much attention in their older van while traveling over the bridge, and a check of their plates indicated some minor bureaucratic snafu.
An older tan Ford van was stopped at 2:45 PM on Friday, March 21, 2003 at the intersection of 3rd and Davis today in Portland's Old Town District.

Ultimately, two police cars and 4 officers were present at the scene. The driver, a young man wearing a tan jacket and dark pants was asked to step from the vehicle. Eventually a young red-headed woman wearing a green sweatshirt and a black and white leashed dog joined the driver sitting in a doorway while the police searched the vehicle.

At 3:00 the driver was asked to remove his personal effects from the van, and all three proceeded down 3rd toward Burnside. Meanwhile, a tow truck from A & B Towing arrived and removed the van at 3:05. As they were not detained it is likely that the van was impounded due to expired tabs or unpaid tickets.

Since 3rd is a feeder street for traffic coming from the Broadway bridge, It's likely that this harmless peaceful couple and their pooch simply attracted too much attention in their older van while traveling over the bridge, and a check of their plates indicated some minor bureaucratic snafu.

Nonetheless, it is interesting in light of recent events.
