'Savage Nation' goes to MSNBC
You liberals are just having a really bad week...
Author's new title for WND Books back up at No. 1 on New York Times
Cable news network MSNBC announced today that No. 1 best-selling author and talk-radio phenom Michael Savage has been signed to host a one-hour issues-oriented weekend program.
Named for his best-selling book, "The Savage Nation," the new show will air Saturdays at 5 p.m. Eastern, announced MSNBC President Erik Sorenson. Savage's program will debut next month, but a spokesman at MSNBC said a specific date has not yet been determined.
According to the network, Savage's new show will originate in San Francisco and will feature "penetrating and provocative commentary and opinion from Savage, mirroring" his book.
"Michael Savage is brash, passionate and smart," said Sorenson, in a statement. "His conservative point of view adds to the kaleidoscope of perspectives already heard on MSNBC - a place where a range of voices have their say, without anyone dominating the channel itself. 'The Savage Nation' will anchor our Saturday afternoon program schedule and become destination television for those looking for compelling opinion and analysis with an edge."
MSNBC released the following statement from Savage: "I look forward to continuing on television what has made me so successful on radio. People love my show because of my hard-hitting style combined with intelligence and wit. Those who listen to me say they hear a bit of Plato, Henry Miller, Jack Kerouac, Moses, Jesus and Frankenstein. I'm looking forward to reaching new viewers while giving my existing audience more of what they have come to love and expect, including a look into my very private studio."
The network has struggled to attract viewers, garnering ratings far below rivals CNN and top-rated cable news network Fox News Channel. Last week, MSNBC announced it had signed former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura to host a new nightly show. The network's much-heralded hiring of Phil Donahue to host a weeknight program last summer has brought nothing but a further decline in ratings. Many observers think Donahue's show is on its last leg and near cancellation.
MSNBC reportedly is negotiating with ABC News' Sam Donaldson about hosting a weeknight newscast during the 9 p.m. Eastern hour. According to a New York Times report, Ventura's show most likely would follow at 10 p.m. Eastern.
The book version of "The Savage Nation" is also back up at No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list and is near the top of virtually every best-seller list in the country - from Amazon.com, to United Press International, to Wall Street Journal, to the Associated Press and Publishers Weekly.
It has been No. 1 on the prestigious New York Times list for three out of the last four weeks.
''The Savage Nation'' is the second release of WND Books, which was created by WorldNetDaily and Thomas Nelson Publishers.
The book was rushed into a second printing only a week after its official release. Since then, there's been a third printing, with a fourth scheduled. More than 300,000 books are currently in circulation.
''To say that this book is a publishing sensation is an understatement,'' said Farah. ''There's no telling where this book will go. It's hitting a chord. Michael Savage is resonating across the nation.''
''The Savage Nation'' is the story of one man's love affair with the United States.
''I would do anything to protect the freedoms I enjoy: Freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom of assembly, and freedom from fear,'' says Savage.
Savage takes a refreshingly honest look at what he sees as an erosion of these freedoms, taking aim not just at the government but forces within our society and so-called ''civil-liberty groups,'' which he says continue to attack each of these freedoms, in the name of freedom. At the same time, he believes a growing international government, the United Nations, continually attempts to override these freedoms.
Autographed copies of the book are available exclusively at the WorldNetDaily online store, ShopNetDaily.
As liberals try to figure out how to reach talk-radio listeners, Savage explains that it is all in the message.
''Liberals supporting the same tax and spend policies and continuously assaulting our American culture and values is not what the American people want to hear,'' he says. ''We must uphold our patriotism, strong families and traditional American values,'' writes Savage. ''This book has the power to unravel years of liberal brainwashing.''
Michael Savage's unparalleled passion for the ''land of the free and the home of the brave'' can be heard daily on more than 300 radio stations nationwide. His unmistakable style has earned him 6 million listeners a week and made him the No. 1 afternoon drive-time host on KSFO in the San Francisco Bay Area. He's also heard in other major markets including New York on WABC and in Boston on WRKO and was just added to Baltimore's WCBM-AM.
