Yesterday, Attorney General John Ashcroft was quoted by CNN as saying, "I totally reject the idea that one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter." I wonder how the Attorney General classifies himself, as a terrorist or as a freedom fighter. It would be very interesting to hear his explanation of whose freedom he thinks he is fighting for, assuming he would call himself a freedom fighter.
The biggest threat to the freedom, liberty, and safety of the American people is our own government's foreign policy. John Ashcroft is one of the loudest voices in the Bush Administration pushing for U.S. use of weapons of mass destruction at their own discretion, even unilaterally if they feel like it. And the only reason they give to the world for marching young Americans off to war is that other countries might have some weapons too and we have to strike "pre-emptively". Is that not the definition of hypocrisy?
I wonder if the Attorney General would advise Saddam Hussein to issue an Orange Alert to the people of Iraq because of the high likelihood of a U.S. attack.
