"Computerworld reporter Dan Verton spent two weeks interviewing self-proclaimed terrorist Abu Mujahid, a spokesman for radical Islamic jihadist group Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM), who took credit for releasing the Slammer worm as part of a 'cyber jihad' aimed at creating fear and uncertainty on the Internet. When HuM's website was defaced by a hacker that same day, it appeared to confirm the story. But the scoop went sour when online journalist Brian McWilliams admitted that the claim -- and the HuM web site, which he had maintained for almost a year -- was a hoax."
