LATE BREAKING NEWS
1. Letter Writer Pat Murphy is vacationing on the west coast. He is writing
letters for PS on a laptop bought with donations from PS participants. He and
Jim Harris met physically for the first time New Years Eve!
2. Tired of your letters to congress being returned? Example: The email address
( firstname.lastname@example.org) is no longer active. This happens when your email is
rejected due to change of email at the official’s end. Watch for an email
titled, Your Permission Is Requested For Improved Letter Sending.” Jim says
is a new trick he taught the computer to do. He is turning around the failed
deliveries as fast as he can.

NEWS FROM THE PS YAHOO DISCUSSION GROUP
Dr. Rev. Bryan Thompson’s ongoing PS Yahoo discussion group is attracting
participants. He says, Right now, we are getting more and more members. The
more, the merrier. Some participants have asked if this is only a group for PS
Volunteers. Not so! this is in fact a list for anyone, volunteers, users of
progressive secretary, even non-members. I hope all members enjoy the exchange.

NEWS FROM CANADIAN PS DISCUSSION GROUP
Before Rev. Bryan Thompson began his PS discussion group on Yahoo we had
several fledgling PS Discussion groups. One that still has some life is
Heather Guillen, who lives in Santa Clara, CA, has written an elegant letter to
Canadian government officials to address a situation where 20-27 non-Native
American residents of a trailer park may be booted off the trailer park when it
is relocated in June 2003. The native American residents have federal
assistance to move; the non-Native American residents do not! You can email
Heather and she can email you the letter and the Canadian government officials
to send it to. Contact Heather at email@example.com.

HATS OFF TO VOLUNTEER PROOFREADER, ELLEN SCHWARTZ
Progressive Secretary Staff Editor Ellen Schwartz spends most of her time
identifying extra blank spaces and erroneous line breaks in draft letters. It
was a major excitement for her the other day when she saw a letter to former
(yay!) Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott which referred to him throughout in the
third person. At last, a real error!
VOLUNTEER EMAIL LOOKER-UPPER NEEDED
PS sends email to a couple hundred elected officials. Email addresses for
elected officials are a moving target. Some are always changing. Jim says we
could definitely use a new volunteer to look up current email addresses for
elected officials when Ps letters bounce back as obsolete. The current address
updates the PS list. Often it’s easiest to make a call to learn the new
to reach them. If this is YOUR JOB, email RealPerson@ProgressiveSecretary.ORG.
GOOF OF THE MONTH
Staff positions are supposed to be less than two hours a week. Here is what
happened when the computer goofed... Hello, Jim! Today, I received a total of
500 letters different letters from PS. It took me about four hours to respond
to. Today was a fine day for that (I was happy to do it... It is Thanksgiving
break, so I had a lot of time), but on regular days I would be unable to go
through that many letters... I'm assuming the abnormal mass of letters was due
to volunteers being on leave, but just in case, please lighten my workload for
regular days to about 50 letters per day maximum...
Readers will be happy to hear Jim was able to straighten this out.
You have seen all letters.
