Please participate in and help organize a phone-in campaign for Tuesday/tomorrow and Wednesday (City Commissioners offices closed today/Monday) urging them to pass a resolution opposing a preemptive Iraq war. It is perhaps most relevant to mention why this is appropriate for them to act on as a local issue (eg can't waist money on Iraq war given local austerity budgets, etc.), why it is within their job description in advocating for the health and welfare of Portlanders. Phone numbers:
Mayor Katz: 503-823-4120
Commissioner Jim Francisconi: 503-823-3008
Commissioner Randy Leonard: 503-823-4682.
These are the three key votes to influence as we understand it. Dan Saltzman has announced he will not be at the hearing, citing conflicting personal matters (and per the Oregonian would be least likely to support a resolution).
PS: The hearing will begin at 2:00 in Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, which is located at 1221 SW 4th Avenue between 4th and 5th and Madison and Jefferson. There is a Smart Park Garage on Jefferson between 1st and 2nd Avenues. If you want to give testimony plan to arrive early--the sign up sheet for testimony will be available at 1pm.
