About 15 people showed up over the course of the evening. People rotated between the kitchen, where they made soup, banana bread and homemade pasta (!), and the basement, where they made a multitude of signs. "NO MORE FASCIST ROUND-UPS!" and "WHAT'S NEXT? CONCENTRATION CAMPS?" are two of the big ones. Several more say, "We are ALL immigrants".
It was a very successful event, promoted only through this website, the PPRC mailing list, and word-of-mouth, and Friday's protesters will be well fed and well equipped. Let's hear it for autonomous organizing!
The signs will be arriving at the INS Building at 511 NW Broadway by 7:30 a.m., and the food will be delivered later. People work in the INS building until 4:30 p.m. Turn out for this important protest. The increasingly fascist tactics of the U.S. police state must be stopped. Writing letters and petitioning representatives has not worked. The time for more direct action is now. The lives of our brothers and sisters are on the line.
People will be also holding actions outside INS buildings in Chicago, New Orleans, NYC, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, and hopefully other cities. Check those IMCs for reports, when you get home from the protest here in Portland.
