Boycott Sponsors Of Rush Limbaugh

Tell Rush Sponsors you've had ENOUGH disinformation and hate!
Take ACTION!

Tell Rush Sponsors you've had ENOUGH disinformation and hate!

In direct opposition to the growing anti-war movement, Rush Limbaugh has stepped up his trademark misinformation and out-right lies in an attempt to hijack the public's perception of Americas increasing militarism. There is therefore, an urgent need for people of conscience to strongly oppose the spreading of fear and bloodlust to the minds of millions of Americans on a daily basis.

By contacting and boycotting his advertisers, we can make it known to the likes of Rush Limbaugh, that those who advocate the sacrifice of innocent lives for the benefit of a wealthy few, will not go unchallenged.

----

Limbaugh's advertisers are listed below.
Please contact them by phone, mail or email to express your outrage at Limbaugh's warmongering.

Then boycott any products or services sold by his advertisers and pass the message on.

Are you really that afraid of Rush? 18.Dec.2002 11:28

Bush Admirer

I don't know why the left is so afraid of Rush.

Most of us Republicans listen to Laura Ingraham ( http://www.lauraingraham.com/public/), Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly. Our favorite columnist and author is Ann Coulter with Michele Malkin running strong too.

Rush was first generation. His biggest accomplishment is that he was the first commentator to get Clinton figured out 100% correctly. Since then he hasn't done much.

The left has many more obnoxious characters than Rush. Take James Carville, for instance. And how about Jesse Jackson who manages to be a racist, an extortionist, a philanderer, and a phony reverend in addition to being a jerk.

who would be *afraid* of that fat slob? 18.Dec.2002 12:06

there is no "Portland Indymedia" that loves or hates anything. indymedia is not an organization or entity that has collective opinons or pronouncements; it is a tactic that can be used in many different ways, this website being one of them; print, video, or just standing there with a camera so the police behave themselves, etc., are others. as a poster to this site, you are as much "Portland Indymedia" as anyone else.

Re: Rush 18.Dec.2002 14:18

Hey Bush admirer, did you read what Rush had to say when a young tree sitter died in a tragic fall? He mocked the poor young woman as her family grieved. As much as you may dislike Carville, he has never and would never stoop so low as to mock a tragic death. Rush is completely devoid of basic human decency and his listening audience is representative of the base lower instincts of humanity. Rush is also a coward who will never debate anyone on an equal footing without his finger on the mute button. I feel that it is perfectly legitimate to hold responsible those companies who sponsor his program. Can you imagine the uproar if a Bush daughter died in a tragic accident and was them mocked by Carville?

In addition to that... 18.Dec.2002 14:23

... there is no concensus that indicates that the average indymedia contributor is anti-semitic, or is a big fan of Jesse Jackson, or anything else remotely anti-semitic. There are a few, of course. It is wrong to equate criticism of Israel's policies to anti-semitism, especially in light of the nunerous jews who also feel the same. The state of Israel does not represent world jewry, no more than Bush represents the views of all Americans. But you know this LB. Indymedia is also not of one mind, it is the collection of many minds. There is no indymedia type running the show, just volunteers and anyone who browses the site, including you.

leftist bitch 18.Dec.2002 15:23

steve

I'm beginning to wonder if the incessant repetition of this anti-semitism bullshit from the Fascist Dungeons and Dragons Society doesn't suggest a certain amount of projection on their part.

I doubt even they can be deluded enough to think anyone is impressed by their ability to constantly reiterate a ridiculous and unsupported claim. They're obviously attention-starved, but they can't really be immature enough to think that if they repeat something enough times it will somehow become true.

At least Bush Admirer provides points on which to base an interesting debate. The rest of the Dorksabteilungen can't offer anything more interesting than childish demands for attention.

Rush comes with baggage 18.Dec.2002 16:02

Bush Admirer

I've never liked Rush Limbaugh. He's the political equivalent of Howard Cosell -- someone with a huge ego and an obnoxious personality who happens to be factually correct most of the time.

Bill O'Reilly is a much better commentator and I like the fact that he always tries to bring on guests with the opposite point of view (Rush would never do that). In fact, O'Reilly generally invites the person he's lambasting. He would have loved to have Cardinal Law, Al Gore, or Tom Daschle as a guest. They didn't want to get beat up so they wisely stayed away.

Ann Coulter is just superb. She knows how to wield the needle and is a 'wind-up' master ( http://www.anncoulter.org/). This book is absolute tops!

Not! 19.Dec.2002 00:30

Ann B. Davis

Ann Coulter is a twit and everybody knows it. Remember when her insipid book came out about the same time as Michael Moore's Stupid White Men? Well, Ann's book is long gone from the NYT Bestseller List. Mike's book is still going strong, despite ZERO publicity from his publisher. And his film Bowling for Columbine is now the highest grossing documentary in film history.

Take heart. The Republican oil-garchy will not last much longer, especially as GWB's nonsense is drowned out by the empty pockets of the former American worker.

time for some psychology 19.Dec.2002 17:48

someone

I find this interchange fantastically illuminiating. Both Bush Admirer and Leftist Bitch both perceive groups instead of individuals. Indymedia is a group, the left is a group, and even, the right is a group. This is objectification taken to its most extreme where individuals cannot even exist outside their labels, stereotypes, and generalizations. Bush Admirer thinks he speaks for republicans with statements such as "Our favorite columnist and author is Ann Coulter with Michele Malkin running strong too." I know a lot of republicans that would take offense to that. While the ability to make generalizations has been offered as an evolutionarily adaptive trait, taken to this extreme and dismissing the differences inherrent to any individual seems quite maladaptive. But, then you can't force people to see others as individual humans worthy of respect; you can only try to awaken them a bit to the possibility.

And Bush Admirer, you never answered my question about what you pay in taxes and whether or not you're a student, which seems to suggest that you pay nothing and are a student but feel free to explain to us otherwise.

True Confessions of an ex-Limbaugh Listener 19.Dec.2002 18:33

Diogenes

Note: This is a revision and extension of my post on the other thread under the same title:

When I first discovered Rush Limbaugh I thought "Cool" now I have something to listen to that I find interesting and entertaining". For me the the journey to realization took some time. At first I found him quite amusing as I enjoy satire - when well done. However after I had been a listener for quite some time (2 or 3 years) I began developing some question marks. At first it was the little things - alternative explanations for the cause of events that did not quite square with all the facts I was aware of. Comments that seemed to have dual purposes - one benign, one not. Eventually I was hit in the head by a brick with the realization of what Rush really does for a living(which is not enlightening his listeners). It would be to facile to say that it is merely disinformation it is actually more subtle than that - it is shaping opinion and closing off debate. Notice Rush will NEVER take a call from someone who is an able debater for a contrary interpretation of the facts. Also on the rare occasions I have listened as of late Rush seems to be taking fewer calls. Could be the volume of negative, or contrary, calls is such as to cause him to take fewer - after all his job is not to inform but to misinform. Hard to do if you have people shooting holes in your spin.
If you listen to him for any length of time the calls he does take seem to fall into a pattern. They are always callers making a point for Rush that he wanted made but needed to come from someone else's mouth. Just from having watched and listened over a period of years I think, but cannot prove, that the call screener has a list of call types that Rush wants for the purpose of making whatever point he wants. Callers are then quickly cut off, usually, as soon as they have given voice to the opinion Rush wanted on the table.

Rush is careful to get his facts straight - it is what he does with the facts that is so deceptive. Mark Twain once commented (as a result of his Newspaper Reporter Days):

"First get your facts straight and then you can distort them as much as you please."

Also Rush will NEVER NEVER talk about certain subjects - like who controls the Federal Reserve and our Economy (he will defend corporations but he will never talk about the people who control the corporations). He will never talk seriously about vote rigging by Republican interests - or Democrats for that matter - he wishes to support the illusion that we do not suffer from widespread Vote Fraud. He casually mentioned one day, to diffuse later attempts to use the information, that he had met with the Predator in Chief early on in his campaign for the pResidency. He actively sells the NWO "Free Trade" plans without ever acknowledging, other than to disparage, the downside to these activities. As a stalwart slime sucking CHICKEN Hawk he is always in favor of sending YOUR kids to kill other peoples kids in the latest NWO crusade. Never will he talk sympathetically about the hundreds of thousands of dead children in Iraq as a result of U.S. Depleted Uranium munitions. Never will he talk about the thousands of "Collateral Damage" casualties in Afghanistan - nor of War Crimes done under the American Flag. If you listen the absences start becoming apparent once you start looking for them. One of the best means of disinformation is to A. Never mention an event and B. if you do then propose an alternative explanation that diverts people from looking at the true cause. Your can also know him by the company he keeps - "Dinner with the Kissingers".

He would seem to have really two main missions:

1. To keep Conservatives Pacified by getting them involved in listening to the Radio and placating their outrage at the latest depredations of a corrupt political system. Getting them to vent their frustration passively. Notice he NEVER advocates actually doing anything about problems - other than to Vote in rigged elections. Quite the opposite he works to soothe his listeners into inaction. He discourages people from abandoning a corrupt political party to strike out into 3rd party territory.

2. His other function is to sell the party line - not strictly the Republican line - although he claims to be doing so. No, the operation would seem to run deeper - there is another hidden agenda at work here - he pooh-poohs any suggestion that there might be operators behind the scenes. This of course leads me to conclude that he is their knowing and willing stooge - and well paid for it too.

And a third function seems to be to drive a wedge between people at opposite ends of the political spectrum so as to maintain polarization and pit the two groups against each other. Truth is their are topics upon which both Left and Right agree - instead of trying to bridge the divide he makes it starker and deeper.

I could continue but I think this says enough for now. Yo, Trolls - Eat Me!

So, Three Cheers for Boycotting this pustules sponsors.

Ann Coulter RULES 19.Dec.2002 19:33

Bush Admirer

She more obnoxious than Rush. She has less of a grip on facts and history than Rush (and that's saying something). She has more misguided ignorant hate than Rush. In a word, she RULES.

To bad she can't keep a job. She stinks too much even for misanthrope Jonah Goldberg.

Rush & the Hindenburg 19.Dec.2002 19:49

Q. What's the difference between Rush and the Hindenburg?

A. One is an enormous flaming Nazi gasbag. The other is a dirigible.

There is a bit of a problem with the boycott. The list below reads like a whos who of materials and services progressives wouldn't buy or couldn't effectively boycott.

I'll guarntee you that 90% of the progressive kids out there can barely change their own break pads let alone provide enough business to scare off this sponsor. Also every progressive I know who doesn't bike and can fix a car would rather shop for parts at a Mom and Pop store anyway.

It's difficult to effecively boycott a pharma company. Medicine for many can be a neccessity and unless there is a generic alternative to the needed product you have no options. Also big Pharma is a key conservative lobby, they already consider progressives the enemy.

Not too too many real estate developers in the progressive community. I can't even imagine the laughter that would ensue in the boardroom at the threat of a boycott. Actually this company make prefab metal spaces but I don't know too many takers for products like the one described below.

An online trader doesn't really fear the non-investment portfolioed constituancy. We all gotta sart buying some property and securities if we ever want to be taken seriously in this world. It seems still about the white land holding classes.

Anyway Mr. Limbough's sponsors seem a bit esoteric, I guess not even the evil corporations want to be associated with this guy. The protest would probably have a better effect if he had larger corporate sponsors, which surprisingly enough scare off rather quickly.

Definite Hits:

Red Lobster
The Mattress Company
Probably bose
Maybe life Quotes???
Maybe even Auto Zone, as they are large enough to want to avoid controversy.

Definite Misses

The online trader
The metal shack company

Maybe the insurance industry (lifequotes)

Yup, I Really Am That Afraid Of Rush - BOYCOTT LIMBAUGH'S SPONSORS 21.Oct.2003 12:22

Bob

This is in response to "Are you really that afraid of Rush?"

In my opinion, the scariest thing about conservatives these days is that the hate they vomit up is now aired publicly on shows like Rush Limbaugh's and pretty much any "news" show aired on FOX.
Where only 10 or 25 years ago you'd have to go to a Klan meeting to hear such hate filled nonsense, now all you have to do is flick on your radio or T.V.

I know public discourse is necessary in a Democracy, and I champion that ideal but, I'm still amazed that Rush still has sponsors lining up to hawk their wears on his show.
Sponsors like "AutoZone", "BOSE Corporation" and "Red Lobster" all choose to be associated with this racist hypocrite.
If you have a choice in the future between one of the companies above and a company that celebrates diversity, please choose the latter.

Let's send a message to these sponsors that although we honor his freedom of speech, we choose not to do business with those who enable him to spew his backwards, 'Jim-Crow' sentimentality.

Worse yet, shows like Limbaugh's lend credence to these banal viewpoints.
"Rush Limbaugh is a racist and he has his own nationally broadcast radio show, with sponsors, it must be okay to be a racist again. "
"Let's all go have ourselves a lynchin, like the good old days"

In Rush's defense, I don't really think he's a hard-core racist.
Besides being a drug addict and a hypocrite, Rush Limbaugh is also a whore.
He's willing to do anything to improve his ratings and if that means catering to society's lowest common denominator, so be it.
Let's teach him and his sponsors that there are more important things than a good ratings and a healthy bottom line.
