"Uruguayan EP-FA congressman Jose Bayardi says he has information that far-reaching plans have been put into operation by the CIA and other North American intelligence agencies to overthrow Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias within the next 72 hours.Bayardi says he has received copies of top-secret communications between the Bush administration in Washington and the government of Uruguay requesting the latter's cooperation to support white collar executives and trade union activists "to break down levels of intransigence within the Chavez Frias administration."In an interview with reporters from the Uruguyan newspaper La Juventud, Bayardi says he observes a domestic-political situation in Venezuela which could easily erupt into a civil war and bloodbath ... "the whole process is a shocking reminder of what happened in Chile in 1973 ... I sincerely hope it does not come to that!" -VHeadline.com
The reason for the 72 hour deadline? Convenience for Bush and Co. now and advantages to his oil company pals later. The convenience part is because if they pull the coup off before the weekend, the Bush folks can all go off on their Xmas holidays secure in the knowledge that they pulled off the coup.
There's a time limit, you see - On January 1, two new laws will go into effect in Venezuela: the Land Law and the Hydrocarbon Law. Under the Land LAw, it will become extremely difficult for foreign real estate speculators to exploit the country's real esate. The Hydrocarbon law will abolish the current feudal system under which 80% of all profits from the nation's oil resource go to the foreign oil barons. Instead, the companies will become, essentially, nationalized so that the Venezuelans will actually reap the benefits of their own natural resources.
Needless to say, the Bush regime wants to get Chavez out of there before these laws can go into effect.
