Well first off I feel that any one who voted the way they wanted deserves a thumbs up. All to often people vote for one of the lesser of two evils in fear that if they vote for who they actually think will get the job done they are only stealing votes from the lesser evil. A big "fuck you" to the media for perpetuating this idea, If the democrats are afraid of losing votes because another party is talking the talk a little to well, they need to start behaving less like republicans.Am I right?
As for you compasionate conservatives who frequent this forum and have been giddy like a school girl because your party is now in the majority, I have to say consider this (A little recap of ps201, from the college text book "democracy under pressure" ): Just over fifty percent of americans aren't registered to vote.About half of the registered voters actualy do vote.
So now we're down to about 25% of the population who actualy vote .... Now five percent of the voting public tend to vote for third partys. So all of you cocky republicans need to realize that only 20% of the voting public choose to re-elect the elites and further the doupoly. Usualy this 20% of the population is split 50-50 between the gop and the dems but this term the gop was lucky enough to pull a majority.
I'd imagine at the most on a cold day in hell they got 15% percent of the votes WOOOOO HOOOO way to go !!!!! But in reality both the dems and the gop have been marching with all the american lemmings to their death. I heard on cnn (yeah I know damn cnn) that there was over 900 million dollars spent on political tv ads this year.My PolSci text book also mentions that polititians spend 82% of their campaign money on tv ads.The 2000 presidential candidates (Bush & Gore) spent over a billion each for their campaigns. So The rich political elite calling the shots have a huge propaganda machine that seems to work.
So please right wing realize that your victory isn't much of one. by the next election we will still have crappy public education, an huge health care problem,a poverty rate increase, bad economy,ect.,ect.... Now i'd like to end my rant with a few ideas from karl marx in the 1800's,first his description of the capitalist state:
pretending neutrality to maintain order, but serving the interests of the rich. Not that the rich agreed among themselves; they had disputes over policies. But the purpose of the state was to settle upper-class disputes peacefully, control lower-class rebellion, and adopt policies that would further the long range stability of the system.
Tell me thats not the way it is after you've considered the functions of money in our republic.
And now some quotes.
The rich will do anything for the poor but get off their backs.
Workers of the world unite; you have nothing to lose but your chains.
The oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them.
The bureaucracy is a circle from which one cannot escape. Its hierarchy is a hierarchy of knowledge. The top entrusts the understanding of detail to the lower levels, whilst the lower levels credit the top with understanding of the general, and so all are mutually deceived.
Go on, get out. Last words are for fools who haven't said enough.
From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.
