Have you smoked a cigar?

Look at yourself. Do you listen to what you don't want to hear? Are you stuck in a liberal rut? Are you Christian? Islamic? Druid? Why do you post on indymedia? Beware the discriminating mind.
This is only the beginning of a series of posts on self exploration. To help you analyze your disiminating abilities. The online world has provided us with a huge amount of information. Information that is easily minipulated, massaged, etc to what ever ends justify the means.

So why do you read the news? Why do you read indymedia? Is it because the readers are liberal (which they are)? Are you a liberal? Do you read republican online mags? If not, why not? Why are you cornering yourself. You must break out of your mold. Listen to what you don't want to hear. Embrace reality, not what you think reality should be.

Why do you post on indymedia? Why do I post on indymedia? That's a good question. I post because I feel I have something to say. But in the end, do I need to say it. No, I would be just fine letting the world do what it wants. Because it will. I'm not in control. Not even over my own body. I can't stop my hair from growing, my heart from beating. We have predetermined paths in life based on our boundary conditions. Simple probabilities. Some things are more probable than others.

Are you an anti-control control freak? Do you wish nobody had control because you don't? What do you feel when you read an opposing viewpoint? Anger, agression, why? Maybe because you cannot except reality. I know I have this problem. That's why I'm sharing it. Since you will always be faced with it. So what's the solution? Well, what does expression of ideas bring? What are the benefits? One would be communication. It's a good thing to understand why people do what they do. But beware the discriminating mind.

When I say discriminating mind, I mean one that makes judgements. This is a human perspective. A complete fabrication to reality. Our sense of justice is one based not on morality, but tradition and social pressures.

For example. Look at a chair. What do you think when you look at it? If you are a carpenter, you might think, that is a shabby chair. I could have done a much better job than that. If you are poor, you might not care what the chair looks like, you might think, boy I wouldn't mind having that chair. But in the end, it's still just a chair. Why did you make a judgement on it? How did that happen?

Your mind is already preprogrammed to make judgements, no matter how trivial. What ever you choose to think about that chair, it does not change it's existence. Therefore, your perspective is an illusion. Just like when you read an article. Our mental construct of ideas are institutions of illusions. Nothing more. Words cannot describe the totality of this concept, only self exploration and meditation. Since words are mearly a figure of speech and a partial picture.

So I ask, be aware of your discriminating mind. Ask yourself why you feel certain things when you read or look, or experience any of the six (yes six, your mind counts too) senses. Break out of your pattern, whether it be liberal, republican, nazi, whatever. Read opposing views, understand them, study them. You might find out why so many people think a certain way. Are you afraid you might actually think something different? Heaven help you :)

In the end, have you smoked a cigar?

The right is wrong and the shroud is lifting they are frantic they have nothing. They have been posting on here like wildfire. They are afraid cause we do not speak bullshit about this racist, decadent, capitalist, indiviuality,stripping,U.S. Imperialism. You all can't not speak total bullshit all lies. The truth is we love all the people enough to risk our lives to get them back, to dismantle the white, male dominating, war machine of capitalism. If we lived life for our own creative pursuits dictated only by talent or desire we would not need profit, or t.v. or movies or alcohal. So just like rome this new-fuedalist AMERIKA will fall. They have the guns but we have the people and the love. Don't be afraid, we won't lie to you.

Well.... 13.Oct.2002 23:48

Relatively Exact

....I actually DO like a cigar once in a while (though I'm not really a smoker), especially if I've just finished a project that has taken a lot of hard work or finished a performance that has gone over really well.

They're also pretty good after a few shots of Jack Daniel's.

Kudos, KBA. Your post moves one to think, if nothing else. That's always a good thing.

Trilox, the whole point of this is to get you to use your brain and arrive at your own answers. People that have to be given all the answers on a silver platter are people that are easily controlled. Kind of like sheep, only less woolly.
