This Website Has Been Censored & Liquidated, Debate Here is Not Allowed

In case you haven't noticed, every article on this website now looks and sounds the same, like an Ikea catalog. This is quite an event.
A few people out there will not be miffed that this website is not an "open forum."

But many of us are very upset! This website is now claiming to be free, open, democratic, and fair. But this is a lie.

Pretty soon everyone will know about this, and this website will be finished.

If anyone doesn't think that the fact that this website censors certain articles is news, I assure you that Mike Beilstein over at the Green Voice does.

Claiming to be an open forum while cutting out articles unfavorable to your "point-of-view," is, well, NEWS.

beyond it.

A thought :

Why is "Preaching to the Choir" considered to be "Propoganda" when it contradicts your point of view, and considered to be "Community Building" when it re-inforces that view ?

My Answer: Because human beings, even Right-Wing and Left-Wing human beings who believe themselves to be evolved enough or smart enough to overcome it, are innately clannish, tribal creatures constantly fighting over territory, whether it be physical or philosophical, and every attempt on their part (and mine, too) to appear as if they are NOT walking around sniffing each other's asses and competing for status in the group, only makes them look more ridiculous.

My Point: Free Speech has no limits, in theory. In practice, on PDX indymedia, it meant sifting through the viewpoints alien and contradictory to one's own, to find a good argument, and even learn a little about what people who view the world in a radically different manner than the web surfer think, or fail to think, or even fail to recognize, in the opinion of the 'surfer.

In Other Words: OPEN DEBATE, with very few rules.

Oh well, if the above post is true, I'm a little too bummed out, if I may use that hateful tired expression, to compose a proper Eulogy. It was good while it lasted, as just about everything in this carny barker sham world of appearances is, eventually...

Bullshit 12.Oct.2002 09:26

No free speech for spammers

If debate was not allowed, would this post even be here? This alleged censorship is going to save Indymedia from those who wished to destroy it. I guarantee you that posts critical of the experimental policy will not be hidden, while those there are clearly about disrupting this website should be.

If someone wants a website with total free speech for every spammer, volksfront fuckhead, or corporate mouthpiece, no one is stopping you from setting it up. I just doubt that anyone would ever check it out, and that was what was going to happen to Indymedia if the editors did not take action.

I haven't noticed any of my posts being censored, and it seems to me there are a large spread of idiologies that that are represented. If there is any "censorship" I've noticed, it's because the software crashed, or the system glitched up somehow.
hmmm I wonder if there's an Artificial Inteligence entity inside the IndyMedia system that's selectively deleting files?

OH PUHLEAZE! BA you can't fool anyone 12.Oct.2002 14:18

Tina Turner

Bush admirer, i like you better in the compost heap where you belong.

I will reply to this sentiment of yours in a short while. I just want to let the moronic trolls like yourself dig yourself into a hole so you can aid in making my points.

hahaha man i love you.

Is Free Speech Dead Now, Too? 14.Oct.2002 00:14

Niggardly

To all those who like the new policy:

Plenty of good Americans feel better that hundreds of TERRORISTS are off the streets now, and relagated to GTMO Bay. A small price to pay, for a little more security, they say. Something had to be done.

Seemed to me that the disruptors were pretty well silenced, when people took the time to give a thoughtful response. This sight seems filled with more hate and stupidity than it did prior to composting. Many of the comments are so poor, it almost looks like BA and friends are now posing as lefties, just to make contributors here look like idiots. I hope this is the case, or else I hope this is just reaction to grave times. Otherwise, the disruptors can claim a victory here.

Composting BA's 'Vanilla' post? That's a pretty weak candidate for compost. I've spent time and effort responding to some posts, only to have my comments disappear to the bin, along with the article. I feel badly if folks here have lost their sense of humor. One more thing, just because someone is republican or doesn't agree with you, does not AUTOMATICLY mean they are wrong or stupid.

Carefull not to let your mind slam shut.

don't see the trolls at the editorial mtgs. 14.Oct.2002 09:27

who cares

the editorial folks should have the right to do what they wish. their volunteer time hasn't been invested to please the right. it's not even meant to please the middle or the left. it's a space which operates under those guidelines which they've developed and that's that. who cares if your posts are being hidden because they are hateful and stupid. i really don't give a rat's ass about your whining. i also don't buy that the left created the world's problems. why is it that people around the world hate the US so damn much? i highly doubt that labor activists and environmentalists are what is causing the hatred. why so uppity. go build your own website if you want to push your own message. server space is cheap and you can post whatever you wish, no one is stopping you. this space allows many to post freely and openly. i think the editorial policy is a good thing. don't let the right skibbies being in a bundle effect your decisions to implement an editorial policy. is it that this site has become effective in diseminating information?
