corporate dominance | economic justice | human & civil rights

In short, it is all about undoing America.

The Bush administration and the war on terrorism are all about the same thing. Turning the clock back and pretending diversity is divisive, women's rights are a non-issue, civil liberties are only granted by God and the GOP, privatized Social Security and privatized drinking water are good global principles of free-market enterprise, and a one party system is all you really need for a righteous and profitable country.

"We are the unwilling, led by the unqualified, to do the unnecessary, for the ungrateful."

As George Bush pushes the world into war, America into recession, the global environment into disaster, and corporate scandal onto the back pages of newspapers, his spin doctors at the RNC and media outlets like the Washington Post, CNN and MSNBC, thrash and flail about madly trying to mold a celluloid Caesar from the boy born with a Silver Shoehorn to slip him in and out of accountability.

Bush is second only to the billion dollar diet industry in profiting from loss. His business background is replete with losses for his investors while he personally profited. He lost the election, only to be rewarded with the throne by a royal flush. He lost Bin Laden, only to find Saddam Hussein. He lost the federal surplus, only to find profit in the war-driven recession trifecta and tax cuts for the wealthy.

In the brave new world that is America, CEOs are richly rewarded, not for making things, but for making things up. The crowd that bragged the adults were back in-charge turns out to be nothing more than greedy little corporate kids with "their hands stuck out and mouth full of gimme."

America has now learned that the price of freedom, like healthcare and education, is directly proportionate to the size of your wallet. The concept of "checks and balances" is no longer a Constitutional principle but rather a glittering parade of gaudy GOP bagmen.

Those self-righteous prigs who profited from sticking their hands in another man's zipper, now stand and scream "Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!" all the while ignoring the dirty underwear around their ankles. These God-fearing Christian conservatives choose to ignore the scriptural question, "For what does it profit a man that he should gain the world but lose his soul?" They can always buy another one with more tax cuts.

None of this matters of course, because America is at war. And war is the catalyst that unites Americans to stand behind their president (unless he is a Democrat) and willingly sacrifice their rights, their jobs, their retirement, and their sons and daughters in the name of patriotism.

But this "war on terrorism" is the greatest opportunity yet. The man who lost to a pretzel now wants us to believe that he, and he alone, will lead America to "victory" in a war that no one can win.

With the American press in disrepute, the loss of an honest and independent media to raise questions about the motives of this war and the necessity of war now, once again offers profit for His Hindness. The faces behind this war are the same faces that violated democracy in Florida and ignored the death squads of Central and South America. The same powers that brought Iran-Contra and Cointelpro into the public now gleefully stampede back into yesteryear's domestic surveillance abuses with TIPS and Homeland Security and the Patriot Act.

The off-White House pushes a parade of hard-right judicial nominations intent on overturning Roe v. Wade, and affirmative action programs, while hammering away at the wall of church-state separation in the name of Christian nationhood.

His Hindness profits from the loss of dissent and opposition. Public protest and protesters are caged behind chain link fences and police barricades in "First Amendment" zones where they cannot disturb the princely oligarchy of Bush Inc., and where the media won't be bothered to stop, look, and listen.

Through it all, America finds itself at a loss. A loss of Constitutional rights. A loss of honest leadership. A loss of stature throughout the international community. And most importantly, America is at a loss of representation by the Democratic Party, which has collapsed and withered before the burning Bush. Alas, to paraphrase the Bard, "We come not to praise the Democrats, but to bury the Democrats."

In short, it is all about undoing America.
