what's up with KBOO

Its 10:15 am and KBOO has been off the air for 15 minutes. They were playing Michael Moores speech that he gave here in Portland at Lewis and Clark.

Is it just coincidence that the station goes silent or is something else going on?

KBOO's phone line is busy and their live webcast page doesnt come up either.

So would love to know that it was just a fluk rather than any of the paranoid political fantasies that I could easily come up with

A fire on a telephone pole 30.Aug.2002 10:33

KBOO back on air after about 15 minutes. Announcer said there was a accidental fire on a old telephone pole caused while someone from PGE trying to fix old equipment.

Power went off during Bush Protest also....

Gee..what are we to think?

calm down ;-) 30.Aug.2002 14:13

I was at KBOO between 7AM and 9Am this morning, yes they are doing utility work across the street near Citybikes - my home lost power during that time also ..... it's all good, everyone try and get down to the demo and critical mass!!!! hell yes!

Z has a point but we're on to something else 30.Aug.2002 17:55

Z may be on to something but just brush aside coincidences today

soon we will have to worry less about pigs and feds or whoever else messes with our network and media at "inconvenient" times.

Um does anyone else know 90% of Oregon is wired up for fiber-optic (thx BPA) but most of it sits dark/inactive because the telco monopoly (gimme a Q, gimme a W...) won't budge?

lets see when "Qworst" becomes really bankrupt and community CLEC-like providers start to take over we'll have primary points-of-presence (POP) but when that gets nuked the secondary receiver station (upstream to a 'Net connection) will go live and pick up within seconds of the primary going down. Can't naysay this point folks this decentral network scenario has already been demo'ed repeatedly by pros in computer scienceusing a wide range of variables. Also when the primary transceiver/emitter/broadcasting station goes down the secondary, ternary etc etc transceiver goes up. Ain't redundancy beautiful?

Lets see OUR bandwidth is there but has to be reallocated from incumbent monopolies... The media we created (Web pages, applications, Flash) is there. Now all of a sudden this looks like a dispute between the public and KBOO and other existing and newly forming stations over OWNERSHIP and OPERATIONS. Who's representin' or who's representing who? Let's see some more accountability in stations and telcomm FIRST before saying it's "our station" (whichever station you contribute to, financially or otherwise).

PEACE OUT ~C TC
