Wow they SLAMMED us!

There were hundreds of people jumping on police cars!

There was graffiti!

People threw plastic water bottles at the riot troops!

One night, probably in 1880, John Swinton, then the preeminent New York journalist, was the guest of honour at a banquet given him by the leaders of his craft. Someone who knew neither the press nor Swinton offered a toast to the independent press. Swinton outraged his colleagues by replying:

"There is no such thing, at this date of the world's history, in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it.

"There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty_four hours my occupation would be gone.

"The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press?

"We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."

Corporate Media = Lies 26.Aug.2002 00:35

Corporate Media = Lies
Corporate Media = Lies
Corporate Media = Lies

Corporate Media is the propaganda arm of the power elite. It's purpose is to cover up the truth, to distract people from the truth, to numb people to the truth

It is very effective. Stop reading it.

You could continue to bitch about it, or you could do like I just did, and send them a letter of you account of what really happened. Make sure to save a copy of it, because there are plenty more newspapers that need to be told what really needs to happen. They can ignore one letter, but it will be hard to ignore hundreds.

Why's that? 26.Aug.2002 14:45

"...but it will be hard to ignore hundreds..."

No it wouldn't. Its as easy to throw six hundred letters in the recycling bin as it is one. What is stopping them?

Was forced to respond and take back a story they'd published saying there was 'no alternative' to Davis & Simon for governor. We email blasted them with several hundred emails. I cc'd mine to FAIR, media Alliance, democracynow, etc.

Next day they printed the truth and about 3 or 4 letters to the ed that we'd sent in.

Working all together can have a desired effect, particularly when you cc it to reputable organizations -- FAIR, the UN, whatever you can think of.

This "fact" was run in The Sunday Oregonian in an AP story. I e-mailed the Public Editor asking for them to run a correction. They did, today (Aug 27).

Truth is taking some hard hits from media people that either don't care, or have another aganda. Every way, even small, we can stand up for the truth matters.
