let's have an organizer meeting for bush protest... but who and when?

Lets have a organizers meeting. I'm thinking about doing a canvas to tell people he is coming to town and tell them about the resistance. When and where should we meet, I'm thinking the Red & Black cafe at 22nd SE Division. on tuesday the 13th? round say 6:00... I'll have to check with them make sure nothing is going on.

I don't have an agenda so please bring ideas and stuff.
How about somewhere less distracting? 09.Aug.2002 13:08

an organizer

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not too fond of meeting at restaurants, or anywhere that has lots of distracting stuff going on.

How about at Augustana Lutheran Church, or the IWW hall?

And what is the premise of this meeting, or agenda, or who should come? Is it for everyone who wants to be involved, or folks with a particular action in mind?

I think it should be for people who want to organize stuff, not for folks who just want to find out what's going on (sorry, but there's work to do...) I also think there should be some basic agreements on what the meeting is for, instead of debating for a long time about stuff like permits, tactics, and strategy. I also think there should be a facilitator ready with a proposed agenda, and it would be great if folks came with action proposals.

I'm only proposing a meeting 09.Aug.2002 16:10

who ever you are,

sure thing, i like your proposal for a meeting. i'd almost like to have it outside, but i'm indifferent about when and where. I'm get people together to get the word about this.
I'm just got some ideas or one good one. I could facilite, but if someone else wants to step forward, I'd rather just watch vibes.

Newspaper says tentively on the 22nd of August. Some one made a poster:  http://portland.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=15760&group=webcast

So you're proposal doesn't have a time and date. Can you contact one of the proposed places, make a date and let us know (with the address)

Otherwise....

Already stuff happening...check it out! 09.Aug.2002 18:15

Here is a repost of a recent post to the San Francisco Indymedia website. However it also voices my exact sentiments about Bush's coming visit. Join US! Stop the WAR. Check the http://www.portland.indymedia.org website for updates. A special website has been set up to organize the event at http://www.geocities.com/cascadiac/

SF Post: "come to the beautiful northwest as portland hosts the worlds most dangerous man, george w. bush, in august huge protests, civil disobedience, street theater, nonviolent demonstrations, and general anarchy is planned for the week of august 19th, when dubya visits the city his father called "little beruit."

because the administration is afraid of us, they are keeping the exact date secret for now. stay tuned to portland.indymedia.org for updates. come on up north and help stop war. and bring big bouncy balls with peace signs or anarchy signs or whatever is clear to the mainstream media painted all over them. "

yup knew about that. 09.Aug.2002 21:23

Yeah i knew about that, I've been in touch with whoever set up that webpage, and I got another address of someone who contacted that person, so hopefully "an organizer" will respond, and so will other folks, and we can put something together.

Spokes Council meeting for Bush Greeting 11.Aug.2002 01:37

Ms. Chris christine@greenbicycle.net

Dear Portland,

Please send a representative of your organization/neighborhood/church/union local/affinity group etc. to the Bush Welcoming Strategy Session to be held this Wednesday, August 14 at 6:00 PM in NE Portland.

Please call me for location and more details.
Ms. Chris
(503) 891-0526
Please be security conscious when on the phone.

In an effort to create a welcome for Bush that respects all the different reasons to protest his Administration, please be prepared to speak on behalf of your group. Our goal as a community is to support multiple actions planned by autonomous groups, and in this strategy session, we will identify groups to be involved and how best to support each other.

Bring a snack or something to drink!
