Weekly Progressive Rallies Begin Aug 1 in Salem

Several area organizations have joined together to host weekly rallies at the Marion County Courthouse.
Rallies will be held each Thursday, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the corner of High & Court Sts.
The Oregon Progressive Alliance, HEAR, Inc., Oregon PeaceWorks and the Marion-Polk Green Party have joined together to create a continuing
public space for progressive issues. Spawned from support for Chani Geigle-Teller (recently sentenced to 6 months in federal prison for her role in
last year's protest at School of the Americas), the groups agreed at a meeting held on July 24 to begin holding weekly rallies in support of Chani and
to promote progressive issues and a critique of the Bush Administration onslaught against civil liberties.

The rallies will be held each Thursday at the Marion County Courthouse (southeast corner of High & Court Sts.) from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Organizers hope
to educate the public while providing solidarity to area activists. To get involved, please call the Marion-Polk Green Party office at 503-362-9094.
