in our community.

Economic Human Rights Teach-In

When: Saturday June 1, 2002, 10a.m.-4p.m.

The teach-in will include speakers and workshops from
WEEL (Working for Equality and Economic Liberation) and the Kensington Welfare
Rights Union. The event will provide an educational forum as well as opportunities for activists and community members to work on coalition and movement building strategies. We hope to make this an accessible and family-friendly event; please call or e-mail with specific requests or needs.

Where: Smith Memorial Student Union 238 on the PSU campus.


9AM-10 Registration/Coffee/Bagels/Tabling
10-10:45 Opening Panel with WEEL and KWRU speakers

1: Anti-racist Organizing and How to be an Effective Ally (Laura Close,
Call to Action)
Workshop 2: Poor Peoples Economic Human Rights Campaign (Kensington Welfare
Rights Union and WEEL). Each will have a 45 minute presentation.

1-2PM Lunch provided

2PM to 4:30 Workshops
I. Housing as an Economic Human Right (Formation of Independent Student
Tenants, Community Alliance of Tenants, and others)
II. Transportation Equity (School of Urban Studies students, Southeast
III. Education Access (Jesse Shapiro, Oregon Students of Color Coaltion)
IV. Student ally work with economic human rights groups. (KWRU and WEEL)

4:45 to 6PM Reportbacks from each workshop, closing and feedback.
