RAVE AGAINST THE OCCUPATION - Press Release
On Thursday, May 23 18:00 - 23:00, for the first time in Israel, a
protest rave will be held at the Tel-Aviv Museum Plaza. Thousands of
young people will come out to "Rave Against the Occupation" and call
for Jewish-Palestinian coexistence, a withdrawal from the Occupied
Territories and the beginning of normal life in Israel.
Leading DJs and musicians, both Jewish and Palestinian, will play
music intermixed with political messages. Video Art produced by young
artists willbe displayed on large screens. In the middle of the
evening, themusic will be stopped and a moment of silence will be
observed in memory ofthe dead on both sides. The organizers hope to
create a "Woodstock" likeeffect, which will bring to the public
consciousness the growing feeling among Israeli youth that their
future is being traded away.
"A growing number of Israeli youth feel that they are being denied
the possibility of living a normal life here because of government
policies they don't believe in. We refuse to believe that occupation
and humiliation have anything to do with our existence or culture. We
feel the ground shaking under our feet, but can't express ourselves
through the traditional demonstrations of the left. We want to be
those shaking the ground. That's why we've chosen to dance," say the
