Hi everyone,

I'm writing tonight with a plea from the Peter Alexander for city
council campaign ... we are in our final push before election day, and
we are in desperate need of volunteer help in some very critical areas!
So I'm asking every one of you, if you have a few hours to spare over
the next few days, please please please help us out. Here is what we
need:

"VOTE BY BIKE" (Get-Out-the-Vote Drive)
If you haven't heard about this already, it's a really exciting idea
we've come up with to help increase voter turnout! We are promoting a
free ballot pickup and delivery service where people can call either
one
of our office numbers, 971-244-0127 or 971-244-0128, to have a bicycle
courier come and pick up their ballot and take it to one of the
official drop-off sites. We're hoping that this will help encourage
procrastinators to turn in their ballots, even now that the mail-in
deadline has passed, and in the spirit of Peter's grassroots campaign,
we're doing it in a way that promotes alternative transportation! But
in order for this to be a success, we need tons and tons of help with the
following:

- Help distribute flyers. Call the Green Party headquarters at 971-244-0127 or 971-244-0128
to pick up a stack of flyers for posting on community
bulletin boards throughout the city to promote the Vote by Bike
campaign.

- Bike! Be one of our bicycle couriers; hours of operation will be
between 12pm and 7pm on Monday 5/20 and Tuesday 5/21. Any time you can
give us during these hours would be fabulous! We are offering short
orientations for ballot pickup couriers at several times this weekend:
Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 12pm and again at 5pm, or if you're not
available during any of these times, you can just start out your shift
at the Southeast Uplift office (3534 SE Main St.) and we will get you
squared away.

- As a complement to the bike campaign,re's not a lot to learning to be a courier; we just
have to issue receipts and keep logs to make things utterly kosher with
the Elections Division.)

- Office Support. While the bicycle ballot drive is going on, we'll
need a few people to stay in the office to answer phones and plan out routes
for the folks out on bikes. Again, 12pm-7pm on Monday and Tuesday. We
would also like to have someone at least on-call who has a car in case
anything comes up in terms of emergency errand-running, etc. Call
971-244-0128 to sign up. we need a few people to spend a
few hours apiece kicking back in a local coffee joint. We plan on
having someone stationed at each of the following cafes to collect ballots,
encourage people to vote, and promote the Vote by Bike campaign: Red
and Black cafe, Fresh Pot (the one on Hawthorne and the one on N.
Mississippi), and possibly Stumptown coffee roasters. You will be
provided with signage, flyers and all the necessary documentation for
collecting ballots. Call 971-244-0128.

CANVASSING
In addition, we will continue canvassing neighborhoods this weekend,
meeting at Southeast Uplift (3534 SE Main St.) at 10am and 1:30pm on
Saturday 5/18 and at 1:30pm on Sunday 5/19. Canvassing for Peter's
campaign is easy, since many people are excited about the things Peter
stands for and we have flyers to leave behind to give people more
detailed information.

****
That's all I can think of for now. There is more info available on the Vote by Bike campaign
at  http://www.pdxgrassroots.org/bike.htm or I can send you a PDF
version of the flyer.

Take care!
Anne

Made Up/Anonymous

Didn't drunken Dickie (but not indicted) do this very same thing--gathered up ballots from the senile at huge assisted living centers? I thought you astralturf activists KNEW the corruption behind mail-ins . I guess that's your game, though--exploiting every vicious Rockefeller "reform" to the max. Wasn't Indy Media/Deep Dish/Paper Tiger all "founded" by yet another real "beauty" with Rockefeller/Guggenheim grants?

In the same vein, I haven't heard any discussion about the liars from Stole Rives/Portland who stayed awake nights thinking up ways for Enron to rip the world. Funny thing how well your blinders work. Why doesn't probable block-granted X-Portlander Norm Solomon cover things like THIS or maybe the fact the Kohlberg (of KKR) Foundation supports PBS' NOW! snakeoiler Bill Moyer...or that BM makes $200,000 a year as director of the Schumann Foundation ALONE (he's with about 6 other nonprofiteering pirates with his nepotized wife)...and his nepotized son John probably parasites the same amount from the FLORENCE (Schuman) FOUNDATION? How much does David Barsamian make "selling" his crap to Sharon Percy Rockefeller's PBS???
