World Week for Animals In Laboratories Conference.
On the weekend of April 27th and 28th, in the Cascade Room of the Smith Memorial Center at PSU, there will be a conference with workshops and speakers addressing important issues for all activists. In conjunction with World Week for Animals In Laboratories, the Coalition to Abolish Animal Testing (CAAT) and the newly formed Students for the Ethical Treatment of Animals-PSU will be co-sponsoring the educational event.
The conference features something for everybody, including a know your rights/observing the police teach-in, a workshop on personal and email security for activists, DIY Media skillshare, Strategies of Social Protest, and using the Freedom of Information Act. Alan Berger, national director of the Animal Protection Institute will be presenting on "Xenotransplantation (inter-species organ transplants): Plunging Headlong Into Madness." There will be presentations on the campaign to close Huntingdon Life Sciences, which has united the animal rights movement worldwide in the most effective anti-vivisection campaign in history, as well as a talk about animal research by Elaine Close, the President of CAAT and Matt Rossell, who worked undercover for two years documenting the cruel and useless experimentation that goes on behind locked doors at OHSU.
The complete schedule of events for the weekend follows. Please pass the word along and I hope to see you there.
