I'm from P-Town. Keep up the good work down there, folks! I'm living in Oly. I'm probably not going to the Oly May Day event because of a personal crisis, but there is somethign you show know.
This "campaign" to stop the May Day event is being organized by TWO people. I've met them. They have media skills and they are trying to stop the event for no good reason.
I'm sure that there are going to be great events in Portland, but if you are up here, feel free to come.
The past 2 May Day protests, or what ever they were, were a huge pain in the ass for most of us in the town and only functioned to tick people off and unfairly smear The Evergreen State College's name. We are asking that People stay away from the Oly on May Day to keep peace in our town and save the college headaches.
I was stuck in the traffic mess caused by the first May Day. From what I saw you had better hope for a big police turn out as there were at least 100 angry red necks in the crowd I was in and I saw 4 guys with 4 guns in their trucks gun-racks. I'd be more concerned about the red necks then the cops.
As to the claim its 2 people organizing the opposition to May Day it must be at least 3 of us because I'm sure the person who posted that comment doesn't know me.
As to how the town and the college feel about May Day go to http://www.theolympian.com and http://www.evergreen.edu/lists and see for your self. At the evergreen site go to opt out and looks at both the tesccrier list and the tesctalk list. Only one person on the college site is posting in favor of May Day.
Well we're up to 4 people posting against coming in from out of state to cause trouble. This web-site has been widely distributed incase you are wondering where we are coming from. And yes the previous posters are correct that no you are not welcome in our town unless you tell the police where you're going and refrain from blocking streets and acts of vandalism.
I'd like to take a moment and ask the leaders of Oly's, May Day fling to release a statement stating that your group is in no way affiliated with or supported by The Evergreen State College. Many of us are local students and negative publicity created by your actions could harm our post graduation job prospects. A statement from you folks would help in this matter.
We wouldn't want to ruin our job prospects over some little thing like May Day right? Screw all of those who want to celebrate and speak out against the tyrannies that run our communities, states, countries, and world!!
The nice folk here in Oly. are just fine with having our voices silenced.
And my god we deffinately don't want the local educational institution's good name smeared, it might hinder the respect our degrees bring when looking for a job!
Give me a break. I imagine that compared to the 4 people opposed to a may day celebration, many more want it!
Don't let a few people who are afraid of rednecks and cops tell you what to do!! Stand up, be heard, and atleast try to make a difference!!
