Celebrate workers' rights, immigrants' rights, the arrival of spring, and your right to free speech as Portland commemorates Mayday, also known as International Workers' Day and the pagan festival of Beltane! We invite all workers, pagans and environmental and social justice advocates to join together on May 1st, 2002, in solidarity with working people across the globe. Because of recent attacks on immigrants, Mayday 2002 will highlight the struggles of immigrant workers.
When: Wednesday, May 1, 2002
Where: North Park Blocks near Burnside Street.
Schedule: 3:30pm, assemble in N. Park Blocks for maypole celebration. 4:30, march through Portland streets, highlighting current organizing campaigns and demanding amnesty and civil rights for immigrants. The day will end with a festive rally.
Let's fill the streets! Bring your friends and relatives. Bring colorful banners, flags, flowers, signs, and costumes. Bring songs, chants, musical instruments, and noisemakers.
