Today, a handful of activists handed out informational flyers on events during the G8 meetings in Genoa in front of the Italian Consulate here in Portland.

The flyers were handed out, and the sidewalk chalked, in the ongoing effort to educate people about events in Genoa, about the potential for similar police brutality here, and to remind the Italian Consulate, that people here in Portland have not forgotten.

The World Trade Center security demanded the chalkers leave, claiming they were on private property, but backed down when the chalkers asserted their free speech rights to chalk on public sidewalks.

We will not forget Genoa, and we will not forget that in all the months since then, Bush has not once made any statement condemning the fascist Italian police and their brutal beating and prison torture of peaceful legal activists. This amounts to a tacit approval on his part and shows his character.
