The latest Shortwave Report (May 4th) is up on the web. (13.2mb/29:11) It's up early because I'll be away at a radio conference. It's WEEKLY now, a new program every Friday by 9 am PDST, and still FREE to rebroadcast. I still need you to send me a notification if you air the show.
We begin with a story from Radio Deutsche Welle on international responses to George Jr's first 100 days in the Presidency. With reports from London, Paris, and Moscow.
Three stories from the Voice of Russia- first a wrap-up on the Summit of the Americas, bringing up some doubts and dangers; a story about the hidden conflicts between the U.S. and Canada, including recently released FBI reports about counter-intelligence measures taken against former Premier Trudeau; a story about the National Security Advisor Rice's philosophy of the U.S. role in world affairs.
A story from Radio Netherlands about Western pressure in Kuwait to democratize, focusing on the struggle for women's rights in a country where women can't vote.
From Radio Havana Cuba- an excerpt from an interview with Noam Chomsky on the Summit of the Americas; Iraq claims 10,000 more deaths in March from a lack of medication, most of the dead being under 6 years old; the Columbian rebel group, the ELN, has requested again for a meeting with the government in a demilitarized zone.
In between the stories I announce times and frequencies for English-language broadcasts, and encourage listeners to check out shortwave on their own. (Did you know that many nations ban the personal ownership of shortwave radios? Wave yer flags!) File at www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/swr_5_4_01.mp3
