April 22, 10 AM: Northwest Resistance Against Genetic Engineering will join other groups, including NWBAC, GEFreeLA, Greenpeace, and the Organic Consumers Association in a nationwide demonstration against the use of Genetically Modified Organisms by Trader Joe's markets.
The groups seek put pressure on the retailer to go GMO-free in the stores own brand of products. Trader Joe's products recently tested positive to containing genetically modified corn, according to Greenpeace.
"Trader Joe's is aware of the GM food issue and yet continues to sell products that contain genetically modified organisms," stated a recent NW RAGE press release.
The group will meet at just before 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 22, on the parking lot side of the store. The demonstration will continue from 10 AM to 12 noon, when demonstrators are encouraged to participate in the FTAA gathering downdown. Trader Joe's is located at 4218 N.E. Sandy Blvd, Portland.
